Purpose of role:

Working within the Hawaiki Network Operations Centre the Employee’s responsibilities are to successfully monitor and maintain the operability of telecommunication networks, including all associated telecommunications, computer, server, monitoring and security systems and equipment, to meet the Company’s business needs, satisfy customer requirements and deliver an optimal end-to-end service to all customers.
The NOC Technician monitors network performance and site security, troubleshoots issues, coordinates repairs both internally and with relevant third parties, supervises maintenance activities, supports Engineering / Provisioning projects and proactively interacts with customers to ensure their full satisfaction.
Key tasks and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Monitor networks and services (via multiple network management systems / system logs) and initiate internal response to outages or incidents in a 24/7 operation to guarantee high availability and maintain acceptable service levels;
  • Provide a 24/7 technical hotline service (by phone, email and ticketing systems) to customers, internal employees, 3rd Parties and subcontractors;
  • Provide 1st and 2nd level technical support for any possible fault at remote sites (including IT systems, network equipment, transmission equipment, PFE, security systems, AC/DC Plant, Air Conditioning, Chilling Units, UPS Systems, Generators, etc);
  • Assist and remotely interface with on-site Cable Landing Station managers and technicians;
  • Interact with and escalate to involved subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, 3rd Parties;
  • Produce adequate reporting as necessary and required by the NOC Team Leader / NOC Deputy Team Leader;
  • Maintain NOC procedures, documentation and equipment records;
  • Assist and support, as necessary and reasonably required by the Company, other activities of the Hawaiki group;
  • To perform requested tasks the Employee will undergo training as required, keep current with the latest technologies and maintain regular contact with vendors, analysts, consultants, etc as may be relevant to Hawaiki.

Competencies or expertise, even partially:

  • ICT/Engineering/Electronics/Telecommunications related qualification or experience
  • Professional certifications such as CCNA, IPEP, CTNS, ITIL, …
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Networking and Telecommunications systems experience or knowledge
  • Server hardware experience or knowledge
  • Experience or knowledge of facilities management including AC/DC Plant, Air Conditioning, Environmental Control, Chillers, UPS Systems, Generators, PFE, security systems (CCTV,Access Control)
  • Experience or knowledge of optical fibre cabling protocols and deployment
  • Practical hands-on ability and experience within a telco terminal station
  • Previous customer service / helpdesk experience and use of a ticketing system
  • Good oral / written communication and comprehension skills
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and respond to network / server alarms, events or incidents
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Team player and ready to work under pressure without supervision
  • Experience with implementing Disaster Recovery plans
  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule
  • Experience working under Quality, H&S or Environmental management systems
